Makayla is ONE!!!

Happy Birthday baby girl!!!

Makayla 1 - 12 months

It feels like just yesterday we were welcoming Makayla into the world and holding her in our arms for the first time. Now she is a year old! Being a parent sure makes time go by at lightening speed.

It is amazing how much Makayla has grown and changed in a year. She started out at just over 5lbs and now weighs 17lb 5oz and is 29.25 inches long! She is walking, running, starting to talk, and learning to feed herself. She loves playing with other children, and getting into mischief!

Makayla today - 1 years old

We are so thankful to God to have Makayla in our lives. As some of you know the events surrounding her birth were difficult. I was induced 9 days early due to Makayla no longer growing. When she was born she was admitted to the nursery (NICU) for 5 days as she was born with low blood sugars and IUGR (Intra Uterine Growth Restriction). God has watched over her and we are blessed with a healthy and very active daughter!

Makayla we are so proud to be your parents and we love you more than you'll ever know.

Happy 1st birthday little girl! We look forward to all the years to come!

New toaster!

We bought a new fancy shmancy toaster this week. It poaches and boils eggs as well as being a fully functioning toaster. It's an early Christmas present for Dave. He loves egg mcmuffin sandwiches. This way he can make one in under 5 minutes!

The meat is heated on top while the eggs are poached underneath and the English muffin is toasting simultaneously

11 months old!

Dear Makayla,

Today you are 11 months old! I can't believe how much you've grown up in the last month. There hasn't been too many physical changes, but in every other way you are growing and learning so quickly. Of course you have started running now and you have discovered you can run AWAY from mommy. Your favorite game is playing "I'm gonna get you!" You squeal in delight and run away from mommy or daddy crawling after you until it ends in you shrieking with laughter as you are caught and tickled! Mommy and daddy love this game as we think laughter is such an important part of every baby's day.

You also LOVE reading books. Your favorite are the Karen Katz lift the flap books. These have been your favorite since 6 months old. Now you love them even more because you have figured out how to lift the flaps yourself. We do still need to help you as you haven't quite learned the concept of being gentle yet! These books would keep you occupied all day if mommy let you. (Seriously I would recommend these books to everyone with babies. They are educational and interactive, while being cute and fun. I just bought the rest of the series for Christmas!)

As mentioned in the previous post you have finally started talking. Your first real word was dada at 10.5 months. A few days later you started saying mama, and mummm along with lots of other babble words.

Just 3 days ago you waved without being prompted when mommy said bye-bye to you. You understand what the word bye means and have associated the action to the word.

You have figured out how to turn on and off the surround sound stereo, eject a DVD from the PS3 AND put it back it (sometimes you miss the slot). You also like to use the PS3 remote and press different buttons repeatedly while watching the tv screen to see what each button does.

Your favorite Baby Einstein movies are Baby Noah and World Animals. Your favorite food is yoghurt and of course Milupa! Your favorite stuffed animal is your bunny and your favorite toys are your mini soccer ball, ballonos and activity table. Your favorite color is....just kidding!

You had your first experience with snow today.

I can't believe you are going to be 1 years old in a month!!!!

xoxo Mommy

Bye-bye!

Makayla waves when I say bye now. I don't even have to wave when I say it! She knows what the word bye means. I'm one proud mama right now. I'm amazed she associates the word with the action!! Babies sure do learn quickly!

Makaylas has finally started talking! Her first word was dada last week. She walked around saying it all day, "dada,da da da da, dada, da!" shortly after that she started saying "muummm, mum" when she was upset, tired or needed something. Now whenever she wants me she says it repeatedly. She also follows me around the house saying "mama". It's the cutest thing ever. It makes me smile every time. :)

Pumpkin Patch

Makayla and I went to Aldor Acres pumpkin patch last Wednesday with Natasha and her kids. It was a beautiful day and we all had lots of fun! It's nice to get out with the kiddies.

I have too many photos to post them all here so I created a slideshow: Pumpkin Patch 2010

10 months old!

Dear Makayla,

Today you are 10 months old. I can't believe you will be 1 years old in 2 months. It makes me sad to see you grow so quickly, yet I am excited! You now weigh 16lb 10oz.

This past month you started walking. You took your first steps at 9 months 8 days. Now you are doing great at walking and follow me all over the house. It is nice not having to pick you up to bring you in the next room with me. You are even trying to run, however you fall after only a couple steps. Soon I will be chasing you around everywhere!

Now that you can walk you are having a lot of fun exploring and getting into new things. You love to play with the toilet paper, see the toilet flush (haha), play in the fridge, and 'help' mommy unload the dishwasher. You also love reading and flashcards. The majority of the day you spend pushing around your activity table, chasing your ball or balloon, walking around holding a cup, water bottle or your bunny. You have recently become very attached to your bunny. Your face lights up every time you see it.

Since 9 months you have switched to only 1 nap a day. Poor mommy. However you now usually sleep 13 hours at night from 7:30pm-8:30am. You only wake up once at 6:30am. Woohoo!

You now have 4 teeth and eat all kinds of food. You would much prefer to eat what mommy and daddy are having than baby food. Unfortunately, you have started to get picky about food even though I have tried to very hard to avoid this. Hopefully it doesn't last.

You are so much fun to be around and you have developed quite the little personality. You are very busy and full of mischief. We love it!

xoxo

Out and About

Makayla waved at a stranger for the first time today. We were at ABC for breakfast and a waitress was talking and waving at her. Makayla got a huge grin on her face and gave a tentative wave. Ah babies grow so fast.

Makayla is now full fledged walking. She can go a good 10 feet before falling. Although when she gets excited she will still fall about every 5 steps. It's funny.

A couple weeks back Makayla discovered that doors open and close. It is now a constant past time of hers. She opens the bedroom doors, the closet doors, and her dresser drawers. That is her favorite as she pulls out all her clothing.

Today I got new tires put on the car. We had to wait around so I took Makayla to a play place. She was a little young so we just stayed in the toddler section. She loved it. Well after she got over the big scary compressor for one of the games, that is. They had to turn it off.

Walking!!!

This morning Makayla was holding onto the edge of the couch. She let go and took 3 steps towards me until tripping on her sleeper!! She has since done it several times. I'm so excited and so proud of my baby girl :D.

The walking has begun at 9 months 8 days!

Hi! Bye-bye!

Makayla waved for the first time today!!! She has been watching intently for the last few days and finely did it today. She doesn't have her technique down quite yet as it was more like her whole hand bending up and down at the wrist

Nova Scotia Part 1

We got home last Monday after 10 days in Nova Scotia. We had a wonderful trip visiting the family. It was so nice for my grandparents to meet their great granddaughter. Makayla loved all the attention as well. She really misses it now that she is home. She always looks around for people and tries to make them smile at her.

The water was a bit cold. Makayla prefered to float around on mommy

I have a ton of photos and I know I won't be able to post them all, but this is just the first few days in Nova Scotia. I'll try to post the beach and 5 generation photos soon.

Makayla walking with her walker

August 20th - 8 months old

I decided to let Makayla try out her walker and she did surprisingly well. I thought it would be too fast for her, but she kept up.

Here are a couple videos...

Makayla got tired of her walker and decided to go for a crawl. My little turkey is getting fast.
