Previous Dish of the Week: Week 2

Week 2: Apple Smothered Pork Chops:

Pork chops smothered in tart apples, a gravy from the drippings, drizzled with molasses, and sprinkled with golden raisins.
(Just before dish was put in the oven to bake)

We personally were not a big fan of this dish. It had a weird combination of flavours and definitely wasn't the best pork chop recipe I've made. I would give it a 6/10. Odd since I heard rave reviews about this recipe. It didn't help I used Superstore pork chops and they were rather tough and dry.

I served this meal with steamed garlic and herb buttered carrots (yum) and mashed potatoes (double yum)

Makayla all ready to enjoy dinner with mommy and daddy. That is where she usually sits during dinner. She can play with her toys and we can talk to her and keep her entertained so she doesn't fuss.

Stupid property taxes

Our property taxes have gotten messed up for the past 2 years! In 2008 our mortgage financial institution missed paying them. In March of '09 I received a letter from the city, I called PC and sure enough they had the paperwork on file but no record of a payment.

Now I just received another letter from the city saying 2009 property taxes weren't paid. This time PC has record they paid them, but the city has no record. I called back the city and they are trying to find the payment. I can't wait to get to the bottom of this. So sick of being told I owe them money and interest. Frustrating!!!

I think it might be time to start handling the paying of our property taxes ourselves.

2 years in a row? Seriously? Come on.

Trying Something New

A few weeks back I set a goal for myself to cook at least one new thing a week I had never done before. This doesn't mean it has to be something completely new or exotic every week. It just means it will be a new recipe or way of preparing a dish. For example one recipe I made was Apple Smothered Pork Chops. I have made pork chops a zillion times, but this was a new way of preparing them.

Once a week I will post the new recipe I made. However I am about 4 weeks behind so I will try to catch up.

Anyway, here is week 1's new dish: Zuppa Tuscana Soup

The soup was delicious! I'd give it a 9 out of 10. Next time I would cut my potato chunks a bit smaller, and maybe added some crushed chilli pepper for spice.

We had garden salad with Italian dressing and warm bread with butter. A copycat of Olive Garden. Yum Yum!

Rolling Over

Makayla rolled over this morning from back to tummy for the first time! yay! I had her laying on her back with her toys. I heard her fussing so I went to move her and I found her sideways and on her tummy! I flipped her over and she immediately rolled again. Of course when I got out the camera to record her she couldnt do it! Lol.

She has been consistantly rolling from tummy to back since 1 month old. Now she can do it both ways. I'm such a proud mommy!

4 months old

Dear Makayla,

Today you are 4 months old. You now weigh 11lb 7.3oz and are 23 inches long. You still fit some newborn clothing but are mostly in 3 month clothing. Some are HUGE on you though.

Last week you went in the stroller without the carseat for the first time. You loved it because you could look around the whole time. Eventually you fell asleep happy without fussing.

You are getting stronger. You still do tummy time but can now crane your neck backwards to look behind you. I'm still waiting for you to roll from back to tummy. I think that will come soon.

Last week you started trying desperately to sit up. If I have you seated leaning back you will do 'tummy crunches' to sit up straight. You then try to get your legs underneath of you and stand up. That doesn't work so well quite yet. I wouldn't be surprised if you were sitting by 5 months.

You have also started a new thing that mommy really doesn't like. That would be screeching! Mommy can handle the happy screeching, but the cranky, bored, I want attention etc screech is not so nice. I'm really hoping you grow out of it fast. Please be nice to mommy.

You are a very active baby, and much happier since 3 months. No more crying for hours on end. I enjoy spending my days (and nights) with you.

Mommy loves you little goober.

xoxo

Makayla out for a stroll

I took Makayla out in her stroller without her carseat for the first time last Thursday. She LOVED it! She was so happy to be able to look around the whole time, and eventually she got tired and fell asleep without any fussing.

Sick baby

Poor little Makayla has a cold. She is coughing, sneezing and has a runny nose! She is such a little trooper. She is trying so hard to be happy, but of course she needs lots of mom time right now. I hope she kicks it fast.

Makayla & Allie

We were invited to Malwina's last Thursday along with some other ladies and their kids. I had a great time. Malwina's little girl Allie is exactly 4 weeks younger than Makayla. Of course we had to snap some photos of the future friends together. Allie is bigger than Makayla already! lol

Makayla: "hehehe I have her hood", Allie: "Oh! Let go!"
